‘Well, I don’t know. At the time, I would’ve been younger, and they’re adults with degrees and authority, so I suppose…’ Collins said, looking up at the ceiling.

"I don't even know what age I am." Florence said passively.

‘We can have a look at your files again, I’m sure it would say,’ Collins said, trying to make him feel better.

"what if I'm super old and still don't know how fractions work?" Florence asked

‘Well, you have the excuse of being stuck in a gross, abandoned hospital and being experimented on. It’s a pretty good excuse,’ Collins said.

"what if I'm really really old and I still think you're pretty?" Florence asked genuinely

Collins blushed lightly. ‘Well, we’re the same height, and your human-ish parts don’t look old and wrinkly. I doubt you are really really old.’

"please don't stop being my friend if I'm really old." Florence said before closing his treasure box and sliding it back under the bed

Collins smiled. 'I won't. You're a good friend, whether you're old or not.'

"then I guess we better look at the file." Florence said. He stretched his wings and his arms.

‘We can if you want to,’ Collins said

"I don't want to." Florence said. He paused for a minute. "I don't think it counts. I might have been someone before I was me but I don't think Xavier and me are the same person. I don't know what he liked, what he believed in, I don't even know what he looked like. I know pretty much everything about me and nothing about him. I think who I know about counts more than who lost their life for me to be here." Florence said, trying to say what he thought about the whole thing.

‘Maybe your brain was altered during the experiments, so you don’t remember anything,’ Collins said, thinking aloud. ‘Like being born again, almost. So it’s likely that Xavier was nothing like you, since you both have had very different experiences.’

"I think that's a better thing to call it. I'm not Xavier, I'm Florence." Florence said

Collins nodded. ‘Yeah, you don’t look like a Xavier. You look like a Florence.’
