It's really quite simple. This is an ongoing thread, in which the combatants are anyone who wishes to join. One may create their own army, or join someone else's. It is up to the leader of each army whether or not they'll allow any one person in.
The mission is simple- to win the war. You can choose to take over other groups and force them into your own, destroy them completely, or terrorize them for supplies. (that, or you could attempt any of those things, and that group could completely kick your ass)
Once a leader of an army has been killed, that army is dispersed, and each member must start again, anything they gained from their previous try gone. The leader will do the same, though it is up to them whether they want to continue on as a leader, or ask other armies to take them in. Accordingly, it is the choice of the soldiers whether they would like to rejoin their reincarnated leader's army again.
HOWEVER
If that leader had elected a deputy (not one they made up on the spot when they were killed e.e), the army can continue on under that deputy as the new leader. The old leader may not return as the leader again once a deputy has taken over- the only way for them to regain that status within their army is to rejoin the army as a soldier and be chosen as deputy, or to seek out and destroy the one who took over for them. Otherwise, they'll have to start a new army if they want to be in control so badly.
This will work just the same as a real war. Mutiny can occur, resources are needed, and can be looted from other armies. Armies can sign peace treaties, cease fires, or decide to wage a personal war against one another.
Obviously, there can't really be any secrets here, unless you have means of private communication with your soldiers or other leaders, in which case, it's just like real life- weapons the other enemies didn't know you had.
Setting:
This game takes place in a setting of a large forest, with a river flowing completely around it. Outside of this forest, on the other side of the river, is a grassy, open area, and past that, a desert like area. Even further than that is the mountain range.
This particular forest is actually rather pleasant, though it is home to some rather mean beasts... These can be of issue to you, or use, depending on how you use them.
If you can see this, you can use anything within it. The territory shown is only of the forest, so the rest outside of it is up to your imagination, I suppose.
Rules:
No godplay.
Anyone seen using godplay must be warned by anyone who witnesses it. After the first warning, a second use of godplay will result in rejection from any army you're in. After that, you will be terminated from the game. Spam the thread though you might, you will be ignored. (This obviously does not mean that if more than one person warns them, the person faces punishment. I understand that many might post a warning. The number of times you use godplay pertain to how many times you do it, not necessarily how many times you're warned.)
Make your rate of travel realistic. If you decide to target an army on the other side of the forest, you cannot simply say, "Then we were there, and we attacked." That's unfair to the other armies.
All's fair in love and war~ Any tactics that can be used in real life war can be used here. That doesn't mean you have to be heartless, or a traitor, but know that it's not against the rules. This is the kind of game where you learn what people would really do when it came down to survival.
Don't target people who are still seekign out an army to join. And yes, looking for an army is part of the context of the war. Don't just ask everyone in the thread.
If you need to leave, say so in the thread. Your army probably won't stop moving- even if you're the leader. But it helps.
Never attack and army whose leader is gone. If the leader leaves in the middle of the fight, you are free to finish the fight, but no more than that.

And another note- people can join at any point- when they join, they can choose to join as a leader, or a loner looking for an army to join. People can leave their own armies to join the newcomers, or when they die, join that one. Or other new members can choose to. That's how newcomers will be able to gain members~ -
