Scorch:
Scorch grew up with his parents and his older brother, not an excessively spiteful relationship, but not a particularly loving environment, either. They all lived together, but their parents didnt know either of them too well. The town they lived in was prejudiced heavily against demons, and human citizens often threw stones at their windows, called out horrible names to them, even knocked on their door and told their parents to their faces that they werent welcome. The humans of the town were cowardly- though they said horrible things, they knew that demons were nothing to mess with, and never attacked Scorch or his family physically. He refused to go to school, knowing that the jaundice would only spread there, and he would just be alone. The names he heard people yell at him and the voices insisting they leave filled him with sadness, so his brother would tell him to go to sleep and dream of a place where no one would hate them. His brother sat at the end of his bed while he slept, hoping to block out the cruelty. It became a habit to sleep through all of his problems and pray they would be gone when he awoke. The moment his brother left the house, he did too, seeing no reason to stay anymore. -

Stray:
Strays mother died a few days after his birth, and his father killed himself as a result. Stray was sent to his uncle, a wealthy man with an extensive interest in his studies. The man, though disinterested in them, had several adopted children, who were mostly watched over by maids. Stray was the only demon among those children, a point the others loved to make when taunting him. The children he was raised with, bored and favored by the maids for their normalcy, were merciless in their jeering at him. For a long time, Stray tried to defend himself, argue back, tell them it wasnt his fault that he was born the way he was, but each time he tried to speak up for himself, he was beat back down by the maids that were supposed to care for him. After several years under these conditions, it became very difficult for Stray to talk at all. When the maids meanness to him became too much, he left home, wandering alone, happy for the quiet of not having the taunting constantly filling his ear. During his travels, he met another demon, hurt like him, who he found he could get along with quite well, as they were both fairly quiet. This was one of the only people he could ever talk to.
