I knew what I wanted to say but I kept stumbling with my words. I eventually gave up, cringing at the laughter.

I looked at you concernedly and walked over and sat on the table next to you. "Pretend it's just you and me, hmm?"

I stared down at my binder. "M'kay..."

"Combien de temps avez-vous pris des cours de franais?"

"J'ai jamais pris aucune. J'ai pense moi-meme. Maman ne pouvait pas payer pour les classes"

"Je comprends. Vous faites trs bien."

"Je vous remercie, je suppose. C'est une tache longue et ardue. Mais j'ai reussi a apprendre plusieurs langues." The teacher was nodding.

"Vraiment? Combien de langues parlez-vous?"

" A propos de cinq ou six." I replied quietly.

My eyes widened. "Tant de gens? Lesquels?"

I spoke English for this one. "Indeed. German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Polish, and French, of course..."

I smiled and nodded. "That's cool." I glanced at the teacher. "That good?"

The teacher nodded. "Indeed...." He smiled. I shyly looked down. I was proud, but freaking out on the inside.

I walked back to my chair and sat down.

I awaited the period to be over, even though Gym awaited my poor soul next. I was just plain embarrassed, and longing to leave.
