Since this is your first story, here are some tips:

1. Make sure that you have everything spelled correctly. It's "exist", not "exsist".

2. Make sure your grammar is good. In other words, don't confuse "your" and "you're", "there", "they're", and "their", and other things like that.

3. Put detail and thought into your story. I'm not even joking when I say that I read through this in less than a minute. What does the main character look like? What does Claire look like? What does anyone look like? What happened throughout the day? What are the main character's classes in school? Have the characters interact with each other. Describe what the characters look like. Say what's happening around them. What's the weather like? Is it windy, rainy, or sunny? How old are the characters?

4. Spell out words instead of shortening them. Don't put "bff", "bf", or anything else like that. Actually spell out "best friend", "boyfriend", and things like that.

5. Make your paragraphs long. As I said before: I read this in under a minute. How you make your paragraphs long is by putting detail and thought into it.

6. Give the characters personality. Is the main character smart, flirty, or sporty? Is Claire nice, funny, or shy? Give them flaws too. Make us like these characters. Or not like them is they're bad.

7. Do not rush. Slow down. Try to drag it out more.

8. Okay, that's about it, I just wanted there to be eight things though because eight is my lucky number, but I just thought of something else: make it enjoyable for you. You want to be able to have fun writing and make the readers engaged, whether that is to make the readers sad by killing off a character in a traumatizing way, or making the readers happy by making two characters fall in love. Whatever floats your boat, just have fun with it.
