  2. When Dumbledore returned, he pulled you and Harry out of a stone basin called a pensive, which you had accidentally entered, and watched Crouch's son be sent to Azkaban by Crouch himself. He explained that Neville's parents had been tortured into madness, and that your scar was hurting when Voldemort got angry, or was feeling a strong emotion. After breakfast the next morning, Mcgonagall came up to you and Harry. "Lupin, Potter, the champions are congregating in the chamber off the Hall after breakfast," she said. "But the task isn't till tonight!",you said. " I am aware",she said. "The champion's families are invited to watch the last task. This is simply a chance for you to greet them." She moved away. Harry gaped after her. "She doesn't expect the Dursleys to turn up, does she?" he asked blankly. "Dunno", Ron said. "I've got to go, we've got an exam, see you!". You walked across the hall with Harry and you both pushed open the heavy door to the chamber. Cedric and his father were standing near the door, Viktor was conversing to his parents in rapid Bulgarian, Fleur was speaking in French to her mother and her little sister. Mrs. Weasley and Bill were waiting for Harry. You saw Sean and Remus standing near them. Your face broke into a broad grin.
  3. They both hugged you, and Sean said "It's great being back here, haven't been here in ten years! Is that picture of the mad knight still around? Sir Cadogan?" "Oh yeah",you said, remembering him from last year. You spent the whole day walking around the grounds and castle, many of the students greeting Remus as he had been a very popular teacher the previous year. After dinner, Dumbledore rose to speak. "Ladies and gentlemen, in five minutes' time, I will be asking you to make your way down to the Quidditch field for the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament. Will the champions please follow Mr. Bagman down to the stadium now." You and Harry got up from the Gryffindor table, students clapping. You joined Cedric, Viktor and Fleur. You walked onto the Quidditch field, which was now completely unrecognizable. A twenty-foot-high hedge ran all the way around the edge of it. There was a gap right in front of you: the entrance to the vast maze. The passage beyond it looked dark and creepy. Five minutes later, the stands had begun to fill; the air was full of excited voices and the rumbling of feet as the hundreds of students filed into their seats. The sky was a deep, clear blue now, and the first stars were starting to appear. Hagrid, Professor Moody, Professor McGonagall, and Professor Flitwick came walking into the stadium and approached Bagman and the champions. They were wearing large, red, luminous stars on their hats, all except Hagrid, who had his on the back of his moleskin vest. "We are going to be patrolling the outside of the maze," said Professor McGonagall to the champions. "If you get into difficulty, and wish to be rescued, send red sparks into the air, and one of us will come and get you, do you understand?" The champions nodded. "Off you go, then!" said Bagman brightly to the four patrollers. Bagman now pointed his wand at his throat, muttered, "Sonorus," and his magically magnified voice echoed into the stands. "Ladies and gentlemen, the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament is about to begin! Let me remind you how the points currently stand!"
  4. "Tied in first place are Cedric Diggory and _____ Lupin! In second place is Harry Potter! In third place is Viktor Krum! And in fifth place is Fleur Delacour! "So...on my whistle, ______ and Cedric!" said Bagman. "Three - two - one -". You and Cedric walked into the maze. The towering hedges cast black shadows across the path, and, whether because they were so tall and thick or because they had been enchanted, the sound of the surrounding crowd was silenced the moment you entered the maze. You felt almost as though you were underwater again. You pulled out your wand, muttered, "Lumos," and heard Cedric do the same beside you.
  5. You soon came to a fork in the path, and you and Cedric looked at each other (like this: O.O). You went up the left path and you heard Cedric call after you hoarsely "I love you.." You heard Bagman's whistle blow a second time, and you hurried up. When it blew another time, you were almost running. As it blew the next time, you started jogging. All the champions were in the maze. You reached a second fork. You held your wand flat on your palm. "Point me",you whispered. It spun around a couple of times and then stopped, pointing right. The lack of obstacles was unnerving you. Shouldn't you have met something by now? You turned another corner, and saw a dement or. "Expecto patronum!",you said, and your silver panther burst from the end of your wand. The dement or disappeared and you hurried on. You turned more corners, took more forks and kept running. Suddenly a scream shattered the silence. "Fleur?!", you called.
  6. You sprinted towards the scream. Suddenly a crature jumped out in front of you. You recognized it as a salamander. It sent fire out of its mouth towards you. It singed your robes and they smoked slightly. You sprinted as fast as you could to Fleur, almost crashing into Harry. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!",came Cedric's voice. "Crucio!", came Viktor's voice. The air was suddenly filled with Cedric's yells. Horrified, you and Harry sprinted towards them. "Reducto!",you and Harry said, burning a small hole in the hedge. You struggled through it, tearing your robes. Viktor was standing over Cedric, who was twisting and yelling on the ground. Harry stunned Viktor, and you helped Cedric up. "Are you all right?!", you asked grabbing his arm. "Yeah," panted Cedric. "Yeah...I don't believe it...he crept up behind me....I heard him, I turned around, and he had his wand on me...."
  7. "I can't believe this...I thought he was all right," Harry said, staring at Krum. "So did I," said Cedric. "Did you hear Fleur scream earlier?", you asked. "Do you think he got her too?". "I don't know," said Harry slowly. "Should we leave him here?" Cedric muttered. "No," said Harry. "I reckon we should send up red sparks. Someone'll come and collect him...otherwise he'll probably be eaten by a skrewt." "He'd deserve it," Cedric muttered, but all the same, he raised his wand and shot a shower of red sparks into the air, which hovered high above Krum, marking the spot where he lay. You all looked at each other, and then parted ways. You ran on, but couldn't help be worried about Fleur.
  8. You ran on for a while and then saw something. The Triwizard Cup was gleaming on a plinth a hundred yards away. Suddenly a dark figure hurtled out onto the path in front of you. Cedric was ahead of you, about to get the cup. Cedric was going to get there first. Cedric was sprinting as fast as he could toward the cup, and you would never catch up - unless...you became your animagus, and sprinted harder than you ever did before, You were right behind Cedric when you heard a shout. "Cedric!" Harry bellowed. "On your left!". A gigantic spider had stepped in front of you and Cedric. In your fright, you became a human again. You jumped out of the way just on time to avoid colliding with it, but you and Cedric tripped. The spider grabbed you and lifted you into the air. "NO!", roared Cedric, louder than you'd ever heard him. You struggled, kicking and twisting, but the spider's grip was too strong. Harry and Cedric cast spells at it, and suddenly it dropped it. You landed on your feet, but you heard two cracks. You felt pain rush through your legs, you ankles had definitely broken. You collapsed on the ground. "Stupefy!' yelled Harry and Cedric at the same time. The spider keeled over sideways, flattening a nearby hedge, and strewing the path with a tangle of hairy legs. Harry and Cedric rushed over to you. "Can you stand?", asked Harry worriedly. You grabbed the hedge and tried to pull yourself up. You were half- standing when you collapsed again, into Cedric's arms. He put on of your arms around his neck, and helped you stand. Cedric was standing feet from the Triwizard Cup, which was gleaming behind him. "Take it, then," Harry panted to Cedric. "Go on, take it. You're there." But Cedric didn't move. He merely stood there, holding you up, looking at Harry. Then he turned to stare at the cup. You saw the longing expression on his face in its golden light. Cedric looked around at Harry again, who was now holding onto the hedge to support himself. Cedric took a deep breath. "You take it. You should win. That's twice you've saved my neck in here." "That's not how it's supposed to work", said Harry angrily. "Both of you take it then", you moaned. "No, we'll all take it", said Cedric. "On three, right?" said Harry. "One - two - three -" Harry and Cedric both grabbed a handle, Cedric still helping you stand with his other arm around your waist.
  9. You held on to Cedric as hard as you could as you flew through the air. You felt your feet slam into the ground making them ache even worse. You and the boys fell, you landed on Cedric. He pulled you and Harry up, still supporting you. "Where are we?", said Harry. Cedric shook his head. You had left the Hogwarts grounds completely; you had obviously travelled miles - maybe hundreds, for even the mountains around the castle were gone. You were standing instead in a dark and overgrown graveyard; the black outline of a small church was visible beyond a large yew tree to your right, and a hill rose on your left. Cedric looked down at the Triwizard Cup and then up again. "Did anyone say the cup was a port key?", he asked. Harry shook his head. It was completely silent and slightly eerie. "Is this supposed to be part of the task?" , you whispered. "I dunno," said Cedric. He sounded slightly nervous. "Wands out, d'you reckon?" Harry nodded. You were unable to stand, never mind take out your wand. "Someone's coming,", said Cedric suddenly. You watched as a figure emerged from the darkness. It seemed to be holding something, a baby? Or maybe just a bundle of robes..And then, without warning, your scar exploded with pain. It was agony such as you had never felt in all your life. Your knees buckled, and you felt as if your head would split open. Suddenly a statue grabbed you and the boys from behind. A spear of some sort went across your throat, and that was the only thing holding you up. The same had happened to Harry and Cedric on either side of you. The man that was holding the object, you saw who it was. Wormtail. You saw him pushing a stone cauldron into the middle of the graveyard. It seemed to be full of water, and it was big enough for a grown man to sit in. Wormtail pulled open the robes on the ground, revealing what was inside them. It was as though Wormtail had flipped over a stone and revealed something ugly, slimy, and blind - but worse, a hundred times worse. The thing Wormtail had been carrying had the shape of a crouched human child, except that you had never seen anything less like a child. It was hairless and scaly-looking, a dark, raw, reddish black. Its arms and legs were thin and feeble, and its face - no child alive ever had a face like that - flat and snakelike, with gleaming red eyes. The thing seemed almost helpless; it raised its thin arms, put them around Wormtail's neck, and Wormtail lifted it. As he did so, his hood fell back, and you saw the look of revulsion on Wormtail's face as he carried the creature to the rim of the cauldron. And then Wormtail lowered the creature into the cauldron; there was a hiss, and it vanished below the surface; you heard it hit the bottom with a gentle thud. On either side of you, Cedric and Harry were both struggling. Wormtail was speaking. His voice shook; he seemed frightened beyond his wits. He raised his wand, closed his eyes, and spoke to the night. "Bone of the father, unknowingly given, you will renew your son!". The surface of the grave at Harry's feet cracked. Horrified, you watched as a fine trickle of dust rose into the air at Wormtail's command and fell softly into the cauldron. The diamond surface of the water broke and hissed; it sent sparks in all directions and turned a vivid, poisonous-looking blue. And now Wormtail was whimpering. He pulled a long, thin, shining silver dagger from inside his cloak. His voice broke into petrified sobs. "Flesh - of the servant - w-willingly given - you will - revive - your master." He stretched his right hand out in front of him - the hand with the missing finger. He gripped the dagger very tightly in his left hand and swung it upward. You realized what Wormtail was about to do a second before it happened - you closed your eyes tightly as not to watch, but you could not bock the scram that pierced the night. No only until you heard Wormtail standing between you and Harry did you open your eyes. "B-blood of the enemy...forcibly taken...you will...resurrect your foe." Wormtail cut Harry's arm and dropped some of his blood into the cauldron. He approached you. "Don't touch her!", snarled Cedric. Wormtail ignored him and cut your arm. You gasped, but you couldn't prevent it. The cauldron was simmering, sending its diamond sparks in all directions, so blindingly bright that it turned all else to velvety blackness. Nothing happened.... But then, through the mist in front of you, you saw, with an icy surge of terror, the dark outline of a man, tall and skeletally thin, rising slowly from inside the cauldron. "Robe me," said the high, cold voice from behind the steam, and Wormtail, sobbing and moaning, still cradling his mutilated arm, scrambled to pick up the black robes from the ground, got to his feet, reached up, and pulled them one-handed over his master's head. He looked at Cedric. The statue released him. He staggered and fell to his knees. Cedric stood quickly, in front of you protectively. Voldemort raised his wand. "Avada kedavra",he said. "NOO!!", you screamed. Cedric fell to the ground in a flash of green, his grey eyes staring at nothing.
  10. Wormtail's robes were shining with blood now; he had wrapped the stump of his arm in them. "My Lord..." he choked, "my Lord...you promised...you did promise..." "Hold out your arm," said Voldemort lazily. "Oh Master...thank you, Master..." He extended the bleeding stump, but Voldemort laughed again. "The other arm, Wormtail." "Master, please...please..." Voldemort bent down and pulled out Wormtail's left arm; he forced the sleeve of Wormtail's robes up past his elbow, and you saw something upon the skin there, something like a vivid red tattoo - a skull with a snake protruding from its mouth - the image that had appeared in the sky at the Quidditch World Cup: the Dark Mark. Voldemort examined it carefully, ignoring Wormtail's uncontrollable weeping. "It is back," he said softly, "they will all have noticed it...and now, we shall see...now we shall know..." He pressed his long white forefinger to the brand on Wormtail's arm. You felt yourself slipping out of consciousness....everytjing was going dark...
  11. You suddenly awoke. Harry was holding you around the waist, Cedric's dead body and the cup in the other. You face was pressed against Cedric's still chest. A wave of sound deafened and confused you; there were voices everywhere, footsteps, screams....you stayed war you were, not doing anything. Then a pair of hands seized you and turned you over. "Harry! ______! Harry! _______!" You opened your eyes. Albus Dumbledore was standing over you. You clutched Cedric even closer to you. You grabbed Dumbledore's wrist, and said "He's back. Voldemort's back". "What's going on? What's happened?" The face of Cornelius Fudge appeared upside down over you; it looked white, appalled. "My God - Diggory!" it whispered. "Dumbledore - he's dead!" The words were repeated, the shadowy figures pressing in on you gasped it to those around them...and then others shouted it - screeched it - into the night - "He's dead!" "He's dead!" "Cedric Diggory! Dead!". Dumbledore gently priced your fingers away from Cedric's torn shirt. "Let go ______, you can't help him now, he's gone, it's all over". With extraordinary strength for a man of his age, Dumbledore lift you and Harry off the ground, although you couldn't stand and someone was supporting you. Someone was leading you away towards the castle, you couldn't see anything, the image of Cedric dying kept replaying over and over in your head. Before you could be taken to the Hospital wing, you heard Dumbledore say "I'd like a word with ______, if you don't mind Remus". In Dumbledore's office you saw none other than Sirius. Remus sat you on a chair, and then left. Harry was sitting next to you. Dumbledore began explaining something about Barty Crouch jr. to Sirius, but you weren't listening, you were half asleep. You let Harry explain what happened in the graveyard. Sirius carried you up to the Hospital wing, as it was now unbearable to even rest them on the ground. Madam Pomfrey gave you some potion so you could have a dreamless sleep.
