Since the 1980's, poetry slam has swept across the nation. Slam poetry has been called "The Literary Olympics" because the poetry is judged by randomly selected judges on a scale of 1 to 10. Some poets have even developed a cult following with their work. A slam poet is an observer, performer, and are not famous enough to adopt a "rockstar" mentality. Slam poets are regular people like you and me, that happen to write.
