In the count of episodes katara lost her necklace in "Imprisoned" and got it back in "Bato of the water tribe" so in total she lost it for 9 episodes. And they lost appa in "The Libary" and got him back 6 episodes later in "The earth king" in days referring to the episodes katara only lost it for about a week or two, but they spent days getting to bai sing sei and spent a long time there so technically they lost app a for longer.....just saying :)
