How Well do you Know Pres. John Adams?

Many people know more than I do about John Adams. I didn't get a chance to read the book or watch the miniseries about him. I'm looking forward to doing both eventually. I did listen to a bit of the book on tape and was quite impressed with the relationship between he and his quite intelligent wife. Would he have been the man he was without such a wife? I think not.

So, who was this man, you ask? Though Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, Adams was instrumental in getting it passed in the Continental Congress. He was our first Vice President, second President. Benjamin Franklin is renowned for his overseas work achieving recognition for the U.S. in the court at France. However, Adams secured the recognition of the U.S. as an independent govt. at The Hague. He negotiated a loan of 5 million guilders there. In October 1782, he negotiated with the Dutch a treaty of amity and commerce, the first such treaty between the U.S. and a foreign power following the 1778 treaty with France. He opened the first American embassy in the world. He is a historic figure worth getting to know.
