  1. We turned left into a cul-de-sac and I found Nick’s house immediately since it was the only one throwing a massive party. Teenagers were scattered everywhere, planking on the front lawn, smoking cigarettes on the roof, and running around the streets like they were wild horses. Alex parallel parked and we walked to the house. I was nervous for some reason and I could feel my stomach twisting and turning. You know that feeling you get when you’re climbing higher and higher on a roller coaster before you drop? That nauseating feeling? Yeah, that’s that’s how I was feeling at that exact moment. We entered the house which was booming with loud music, and the first step I took, someone was up in my Kool-Aid telling me to pick a number from a hat. “No,” I said flatly. “Come on!” He insisted. “Leave her alone, Nathan,” a girl said behind him. “She’s not interested in making out with total strangers.”
  2. The girl had caramel hair with stunning green eyes. She was wearing a knee length blue dress that she looked gorgeous in. "And you are?" I asked. She flashed me a smile and held out her hand for me to shake. "Sarah." I shook her hand warmly and said, "What are you talking about, making out with strangers?" Nathan grinned and shook the hat. "We're about to play Seven Minutes in Heaven and then we're going to play Spin the Bottle. Wanna join?" I glanced at Alex. He stood still, waiting for my response. "I'll pass on the Seven Minutes in Heaven. But let me know when you start Spin the Bottle." Alex twitched slightly. I don't know why he cared at all since he was going on a date right after this. I don't have a boyfriend, so why not take this opportunity to possibly find one? Nathan smirked at Sarah and walked towards the living room. "That would be a bad idea," Sarah said. Alex was gone, hugging the bag of Star Bursts to his chest, determined to get them to Nick. "Why not?" I inquired. Sarah laughed. "I wouldn't want to tell you. That would just spoil the fun." She winked and then disappeared into the crowd of teenagers.
  3. Well that was weird. I peered around the house, looking for Alex. I saw him standing by the fireplace. Before I could follow him, someone's hands were on my back pushing me to the living room. I turned around to find Nathan wearing a grin. "Time for Spin the Bottle." He sat me down along with a circle of other people. A green Sprite bottle was anxiously sitting in the middle of all of us. "That was fast," I said to Nathan. "Everyone wanted to do Spin the Bottle first. Seven Minutes is gonna be later so everyone's wasted." Well that was nice to know. Among the circle were some familiar faces I knew such as Kelsey and Troy. Nathan put his hand on my knee and smiled eerily. "Ready to play?"
  4. Kelsey spun first. She landed on a guy that I didn't know, but soon found out that his name was Charlie. It turns out that we were going clockwise when taking turns, so I was going to go last. I was rigid all over. I never actually played this game before, maybe joked around with it, but this was a legit, serious game. One by one, people spun the bottle. And every time the bottle passed by me and landed on somebody else. Every time, I felt relieved and frustrated. Finally, it was Nathan's turn. He rubbed his hands together and and spun the bottle hard. It took maybe a minute before it finally slowed down. It turned and turned and turned, and I prayed that it wouldn't land on me. I mean, Nathan was decent looking, but he was kind of a creep. Luckily, my prayers were answered. The bottle missed me ever so slightly and landed on a girl named Theresa. Nathan shot me a disappointed look and crawled over to Theresa's side and kissed her. Suddenly my palms got all sweaty. This is it. I leaned over and spun the bottle.
  5. I was so nervous as the bottle kept spinning and spinning in a never ending whirlpool. "I have to go to the bathroom," Troy commented. He got up with a grunt and strode away. I don't even remember how hard I spun the bottle, but it felt like eternity before it finally slowed its pace. I thought about all of the different scenarios that could happen. What if someone was grossed out that the bottle landed on them? What if I got a girl? Not that I have a problem with that stuff, but I would prefer a guy. I saw Sarah sitting down on the arm rests of the couch. She was wearing a grin on her face, as if she was trying to stop herself from laughing out loud. She was intently watching the bottle slow down until it finally stopped in Troy's open space. It was pointing at the coffee table. "What do you want me to do, kiss the coffee table?" I asked, amused. I looked at Nathan waiting for an answer. He looked puzzled at first, but then his lips spread into a massive smile. "Actually, you have someone else to kiss." I looked back at the spot where Troy was sitting. Talking to Sarah, right in front of that spot where the bottle was pointing to, was Zac.
  6. Sarah burst out laughing. "I told you so," she remarked. My eyes widened and my cheeks flushed in red. "What's happening?" Asked a confused Zac. His eyes peered down at the bottle and to the spot where he was standing. "Who spun the bottle?" I raised my hand lamely. Zac half smiled. "Sorry, but I have a girlfriend." I was about to agree when Nathan stepped in. "Sorry bro, but that's the rules. Whoever spins the bottle has to keep whoever the bottle points at. And it turns out, the bottle pointed at you. Fate has spoken and now you guys should kiss so we can just get on with it." I was about to protest when Kelsey said, "You're the one that wanted to play this, right? Then play by the rules like everyone else. You know, unless you wanna get all dramatic about it and start weeping like a little baby." I stood up, straying away from the circle. "He has a girlfriend, and she's my friend. I'm not going to wreck that." I was about to walk away when Zac took hold of my arm. "I appreciate that. But you're going to have to face them again on Monday. They'll never let you live this down. Rumors and gossip will spread about you unless you do this, believe me. So, one kiss so we can get this over with?" I hesitated at first, but then shrugged. I guess what April wont know wont hurt her. I started towards Zac and out lips met instantly. One kiss is supposed to be at least one second. But not this one. At first it was gently, and then I don't know what got over me, but I just continued kissing him even when I felt him breaking away slightly. He kept kissing too, so you could say it wasn't all my fault. It was amazing, but I thought about April. She was home sick while I'm out partying and making out with her boyfriend. Zac was the first one to break away. He held me by the shoulders and looked down at the ground guiltily. "Excuse me." That's what he said before he left.
  7. And now I felt like the bad guy. I was the one who continued kissing him. Me. I broke away from the living room with Sarah trailing behind me. "I told you not to do it." I sighed, irritated. "You already said that. But how did you know?" She tossed her caramel hair behind her back and winked. "Psychic." She held out her hand one more time. "I guess I should formally introduce myself this time." I grabbed her hand and shook it again, this time not so friendly. "My name's Sarah Johnson, honor student, first degree black belt, psychic, and a boy magnet. And you must be the famous mortal everyone's been talking about back in the other world. Nice to finally meet you." I seriously had no idea what she was talking about. "What do you mean?" She laughed again. "I guess you'll find out later. I've seen your future. And by the looks of it, it's not going to be a happy ending." Sarah winked again and soon disappeared into the crowd of teenagers.
  8. I felt like a sack of potatoes again. But at the same time,I was pretty damn happy about finally being able to kiss Zac. I mean, I wasn't going to lie and say I didn't like it because I sure did. I sighed heavily and left the living room. I scoured my way around the dancing people, keeping an eye out for anyone I knew. I made my way to the kitchen where the refreshments were being served and got a handful of chips and popped it in my mouth. The saltiness made me quench for thirst, but I hesitated when I took a good look at the punch bowl. At the bottom, a cloudy substance was contaminating itself within the punch bowl, swirling around like a tiny tornado. I found a cooler behind the kitchen counter and got myself a water bottle. I took a long drink and wiped my mouth was a napkin followed by an, "ahh". I stood there for a while just feeling the music when I saw Nick approaching me. I set my water down and smoothed out my dress before he came. "Hi, ______!" He exclaimed, followed by a hug. "You look gorgeous. Thanks for coming!" I smiled and greeted him back. I had to lean in really close and yell in his ear since the music was drowning out my voice. He smelled completely wasted. And come to think of it, his voice sounded different and unsteady when he talked to me. "Something wrong?" He asked with a goofy smile. He was rocking back and forth on his feet and I was afraid he was going to fall. "Are you okay?" I asked, taking hold of his arm. Ignoring my question he said, "I don't know half of the people at this party, you know. My brother did this and...Oh, is that Jennifer Lopez?" HE started waving in the direction of the stairs. "Hi, JLO!" I looked to where he was waving and of course, Jennifer Lopez wasn't there. What has this kid been doing.
  9. "Can we go upstairs?" He asked, petting a vase. "Why?" I questioned, still holding onto his arm so that he didn't lose his balance. "I need to see if my brother is okay." He was mumbling now; not a good sign. That usually means he's about to pass out. "Your brother can take care of himself. You need to calm down and check yourself. Nick, you're drunk." He started laughing like a lunatic and started singing Jason Derulo's name like how he does it, almost annoyingly too much, before every song. I sighed in exasperation and looked around. I scanned the area for Alex and found him by the fire place drinking a coke and talking to Denise Jaminson. Ugh, Denise Jaminson. "Alex!" I yelled. I apparently he didn't hear me so I tried again, but louder. "Alex!" I rolled my eyes and screamed out desperately, "ALEX!" And of course it happened when the song ended and then everyone looked my way. Alex showed me a faint smile while the next song started up and people forgot about it. "You cried for my assistance?" Nick was suspended between sitting down and standing up so I just nodded my head towards him hoping it would explain everything. Alex shrugged and then grabbed his feet while I held onto his arms. "Upstairs," Alex said, leading the way. We climbed up, dragging Nick's body with us, and I opened a random door with my elbow. I assumed it was Nick's room, but I didn't really care since my arms were starting to burn from his muscular weight. We lied him down on the bed and I tucked him in. "Happy birthday," I said under my breath.
  10. Alex and I went out the room and he grinned. "It's not funny," I said, trying not to smile too. "Yeah it is. Just a little bit." Alex made a gesture with his fingers, demonstrating how funny it was. "He was petting a vase," I stated, crossing my arms. "This party is putting more stress upon me more than anything. First I kiss Zac and now—" "You kissed Zac?" Alex asked. I don't know if it was just my imagination but he sounded a little hurt. "I spun the stupid bottle and it landed on him and Nathan wouldn't let me back down. It was just a little, pointless kiss." Okay the last sentence was a lie, but at least that's what it intended to be. Alex put on a half smile and we went downstairs. "So do you want to go the park now then?" He asked. There wasn't much point to the party anymore so I nodded. He opened the door for me and I stepped out, the cool winter breeze blowing my hair back a little bit. I worried about Zac. I needed to talk to him as soon as possible. I got back in the car and Alex started driving to the park. The Cheshire Park consisted of a playground, a lake, and a big grassy area for sport activities or just picnicking. The best part of the park were the big trees looming over everybody so on hot days, you were bound to always find a nice spot in the shade. The night was rather gray and shady. I heard the trunk of the car open and then close as Alex emerged with a basket in his hands and four blankets in the other. I followed him into the faint darkness and saw up ahead a string of lights by the biggest tree of the park exactly by the lake. The big screen thing Alex was talking about was already set up and it was already playing a movie I recognized as Toy Story 3. On a big picnic blanket were bowls of finger foods and by the tree was a cooler for the drinks. Up above, hanging on the tree's branches were multitudes of Chinese paper lanterns, all assortments of color.
  11. Alex set the picnic basket and blankets down. "Impressed?" I smiled. "Very. When did you do all of this?" "Earlier today. Sam helped me with some of it," he replied. "Then what was the point for me to come?" I asked, not really seeing why I had to since I didn't have anything to do. "Well, if my date weren't here then this would've been a waste then, don't you think?" My head started aching. "Wait...what?" Alex smiled and said, "It's you. All of this? It's all for you."
