  1. This is my first quiz, so please don't judge me and please kindly ignore my spellings which sometimes happen to be British and sometimes American. Hope you enjoy this! :)
  2. The castle of Hogwarts has been a witness to stories worth centuries; generations of students which included heroes, villains, pranksters, bullies and bookworms, all alike have walked through its corridors and each path and dungeon tells a different story for each one of them. Friendships were formed, loyalties were declared, rivalries were recognised, but they all are buried in the depth of the castle and it is only revealed to those who seek them.
  3. The story, which I am going to narrate has never been told before. It is about the life of a young maiden who had once visited the historic, magical world of Hogwarts; she made friends, enemies, acquaintances like any other person would. However, little did she knew that whatever sort of magic she learnt at Hogwarts was no match to the magic which had changed her life. She discovered a new term, a powerful emotion which had capacity to change worse of the people. However, before I narrate any further, I invite you to see her story through her own eyes...
  4. 'Wake up, You have to catch your train!' my mother shook me in my bed, in an attempt to arise me from my slumber. I groaned; I had adopted a habit of waking late during the summer and was no longer accustomed to wake in early morning. 'I am going downstairs to prepare the breakfast. Now, hurry,' my mother shouted at me one last time before she slammed my bedroom door, leaving me alone in my bed. I opened my eyes, sat straight on the bed and stretched my arms in the air; a yawn escaped from my mouth which I instantly covered up with my left hand. I glanced at the clock besides my bed which showed 8:00 am. 'What the-?' I stared in shock. I hastily jumped from my bed and ran to bathroom. I had completely forgotten that today was first of September! I had to shove food in my mouth hastily at breakfast and I almost knocked the milk jug as I extended my hand to reach the toast. After I had finished, I was left with a little time to prepare. 'Have you kept all your books and wand?' my mother asked from behind me as I later fixed my hair in front of the mirror.'Yes, mother,' I replied.'Ok, then hurry. We are waiting,' she said before she turned to levitate my trunk and carried it downstairs to stuff it in the car. I was the last to sit in the car; my parents were already seated along with my younger sister Rose. She smiled at me sheepishly as I sat in with her in the back seat. I felt a bit ashamed for being late. My father looked at me through the front mirror when I finally seated myself in the backseat. ' Ready?' he asked before he turned on the engine. We all nodded in silence and then the engine started with a groan. I sat silently as our car passed through different landscapes. I rested my head against the window, dreaming about Hogwarts. I was going back to start my third year and it was a great feeling thinking about returning to the castle. The magical world of Hogwarts awaited me. I let my mind wander but I was soon returned to reality by my father who told me that we had just arrived at the station.
  5. I took my trunk from the car and was helped by my father in placing it on a trolley. We passed the barrier without any collision and now stood in front of the scarlet Hogwarts train. Dense grey steam was emanating from the train which almost clouded the vision but I could still distinctly hear many familiar voices. 'Have good term, and remember to write to us when you reach there,' my mother said to me as she pulled me in a hug. 'I will, mother,' I replied smiling at her while looking up at her, with my eyes trying to imply that it was my filial duty. She smiled affectionately and I turned towards my father, who merely said, 'Goodbye.' 'I'll miss you, Rose,' I whispered to my sister's ear as I hugged her. She smiled at me sadly and said, 'I'll miss you too, Jane.' Finally, the moment of departure came and it was hard to go away from family. My eyes had damped as I waved at them before boarding on the train and looked till they disappeared. I sighed and took my luggage and started my search for an empty compartment.
  6. Watch where you are going girl,' a cold drawl greeted me when I bumped into someone. My trunk stumbled and fell, but luckily it did not harm anyone. I looked up and saw a pale, blond boy with an arrogant look smirking at the sight of me. 'Sorry,' I mumbled but he completely disregarded my apology and continued smirking before he left with his two thick cronies. I remembered the blond boy as Draco Malfoy, an arrogant bully belonging to Slytherin House. I rolled my eyes in disgust, feeling disgruntled for I had the misfortune of starting my year by bumping into Malfoy. I was glad it had not turned out more nasty than him smirking and picked up my trunk. I began my search but in vain for it seemed that all of the compartments were full. I felt helpless after a long search and wanted to tear up. However, luckily I soon found a vacant compartment at the end of the train and placed my trunk on the luggage rack, before slumping onto the seat. I sighed in relief and turned to gaze out of the window; the train was moving through green pastures and cows were grazing at a distance. It was raining and splashes of train blurred the window glass but I wiped it off so that I could experience the ethereal, mystifying beauty of the English fields. I was busy enjoying the scenery when I heard a knock on the compartment door.
  7. 'Yes?' I asked irritably. 'Mind if I sit? All other compartments are full,' said a tall burly boy who seemed to be in his last year. I nodded and he entered the compartment and placed his trunk on the luggage rack before he sat in front of me.'Thanks. I am Oliver Wood by the way.  Mind if I know your name?' he asked politely. He looked bored and was looking for something to idle away the journey. 'I am Jane Crawford. You are Gryffindor Quidditch Captain, aren't you?' I asked skeptically. I had heard his name but never had the oppurtunity to meet him; I also had not bothered much before because I was not much of a Quidditch enthusiast and was one of the people who were interested in Quidditch only when there was a Gryffindor match against Slytherin. 'Yes,' he replied sheepishly.'You like Quidditch?' he asked, hoping to converse on a topic of mutual interest. 'Not much, but I have never tried it. So, I can't say,' I finished smiling faintly. 'You should, it's the most fantastic game ever,' he replied enthusiastically. 'I will,' I said assuringly. 'So, in which year you are at Hogwarts?' he asked me nonchalantly, while gazing at the window. 'I will be starting my third year,' I replied as I too looked outside.

  9. It seemed that none of us had anything else to say, therefore to escape from boredom, I busied myself with a book and the rest of the ride passed in silence until the train came to an unexpected halt. 'Why are we stopping already? We can't reach now!' Oliver said, looking confused. 'I don't know,' I muttered slowly.'I am going out to check. Ok?' he said as he slammed the compartment door behind him and left to investigate. I sat clueless about the situation, hoping everything was alright. A dark shadow caught my attention as it brushed against the compartment door; I felt cold and numb, my mind was going blank and it felt as if all happiness was draining out of me. An unexplained misery settled over me but the feeling was soon gone as the dark shadow left. 'What was it?' I muttered to myself.
  10. I decided to check and went outside the compartment. A lot of heads were peering out of the compartment doors, looking as clueless as me and they appeared to be of no help to inform about the situation. I turned and walked towards the nearest compartment and opened the door, hoping to inquire about the situation but the sight before me stopped me in my tracks. I gasped; Harry Potter lay unconscious on his seat and Hermione, Ron and a wizard in shabby robes were hovering over him anxiously and shaking him to bring him back to his senses.'What happened?' I asked frightfully. Neville and Ginny merely glanced and looked too anxious to give an answer. Ron, however, turned around and gave me a small wave with his hand and then began, 'A dementor has just passed our compartment. Harry started acting strangely and the last thing we know is that he fainted. I can't guess, however, why did it affect him so much,' Ron said. I shot a worried glance towards Harry. 'It is because he has got a more tragic past than anyone else here,' the wizard answered. I looked at him perplexed; judging from my look Hermione said,' Don't worry, Jane. He is Professor Lupin, the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher.' 'Welcome Professor,' I turned towards him and he smiled in acknowledgment. 'What is a dementor?' I asked. 'They guard the wizard prison, Azkaban,' Professor Lupin answered kindly.Soon, Harry was back to his senses. 'What happened?' he asked. Hermione soon informed him that he had fainted when the dementor had arrived in their compartment. 'Here, have some chocolate,' Professor Lupin offered us all chocolate bar and we took lumps of it. We all then sat in silence, nibbling the chocolate and I felt warmth rising inside me. All the magic we did at Hogwarts was outdone by a mere piece of chocolate, I thought to myself for it had surprisingly lightened my mood. 'We should better change into our robes,' Hermione said when the train slowed again, but this time it was not because of dementors. I left for bathroom to change and soon arrived back in my black Hogwarts' robes. The train stopped and we all took our things, before boarding off. Our trunks were to be returned to the castle later. We found one of carriages which were driven by invisible horses, and Hermione, Harry, Ron and I sat in the carriage
  11. 'Which subjects are you taking, Hermione? I asked as I adjusted my position. 'All of them,' she replied curtly and I could not help but stare at her in disbelief. I was unable to imagine that how would she manage to do all of them with a full schedule. We remained silent for the rest of the ride.As the carriage passed the pair of magnificent wrought iron gates, we saw two more towering, hovering dementors in their black hoods, standing guard on either side. A wave of cold sickness threatened to engulf me again; I saw Harry close his eyes and I did the same, hoping to block them in oblivion. I opened them again as soon as we passed the gates. The carriage picked up speed on the long, sloping drive to the castle; I watched at the castle towers at a distance which illuminated faintly against the dark, glittering sky. Atlast, the carriage swayed to a halt; Hermione, Ron, Harry and I got out of the carriage but as soon as we stepped out, instead of a friendly reception, a drawling, delighted voice greeted us.'You fainted Potter? Is Longbottom telling the truth? You actually fainted?' Malfoy elbowed past Hermione to block Harry's way up the stone steps to the castle. His face was  gleeful and his pale eyes glinted maliciously. I stood behind Harry and unknowingly, I clenched my jaw. Malfoy, was however, too preoccupied to notice. 'Shove off, Malfoy,' said Ron, whose jaw was also clenched. 'Did you faint as well, Weasley?' said Malfoy loudly. 'Did the scary, old dementor frighten you too, Weasley?' 'Is there a problem?' said a mild voice. Professor Lupin had just gotten out of the next carriage. Malfoy gave Professor Lupin an insolent stare. With a tiny hint of sarcasm in his voice, he said, 'Oh, no...er...Professor,' then he went away with Crabbe and Goyle. We arrived at the Great Hall, which was magnificently decorated for the feast. 'Potter! Granger! I want to see you both,' It was Professor McGonagall, the head of Gryffindor house. 'There is no need to look so worried, I just want a word in my office,' she assured them when she saw our confused faces. 'Move along there Weasley and you too, Miss Crawford.' She ushered Harry and Hermione away from the chattering crowd leaving me and Ron. 'Come on,' I said to him and both of us then went to sit on Gryffindor table.  'What did Professor want to say?' I wondered. 'Dunno,' Ron replied. We were soon silenced as the Sorting Ceremony began. I clapped as the first years were sorted into different houses and loudest when any one of them became a Gryffindor.
  12. Hermione and Harry came after the Sorting and sat on either side of Ron who had saved them seats. 'What was that all about?' Ron muttered. Harry started to explain in a whisper but then the headmaster stood up and he had to broke off.'Welcome,' the voice of Albus Dumbledore echoed in the Great Hall, the candlelight shimmering on his beard.' 'Welcome to another year at Hogwarts! I have a few things to say to you all, and as one of them is very serious, I think it is best to give it out of the way before you become befuddled by our excellent feast...' he cleared his throat and continued, 'As you all will be aware after their search of Hogwarts Express, our school is presently playing host to some of the dementors of the Azkaban, who are here on Ministry of Magic business.' He paused and it was evident that he wasn't glad about their presence. Professor Dumbledore then explained about the dementor's patrolling the castle and warned that dementors were not easily tricked.'On a happier note,' he said, 'I am pleased to welcome two new teachers to our ranks this year. First, Professor Lupin who has kindly consented to fill the post of Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. 'There was some scattered, rather unenthusiasric applause and I was one of the few who clapped. 'As to our second new appointment,' continued Dumbledoar as lukewarm applause for Professor Lupin died away.'Well, I am sorry to tell you, that Professor Kettleburn, our Care of Magical Creatures teacher, retired at the end of the last year in order to enjoy more time with his remaining limbs. However, I am delighted to say that his space will be filled by none other than Rubeus Hagrid, who has agreed to take on his teaching job in addition to his gamekeeping duties.' I was stunned for a second and then I joined in the applause. Hagrid was not a fully qualified wizard and I could truly understand what his new position meant to him. I knew it would take time  getting used to listening and saying 'Professor Hagrid' but neverthless, I felt happy for him. Hagrid's face, on the other hand, looked a ruby red from embarrassment. I glanced at the Slytherin table and saw Draco Malfoy looking shocked; he seemed as if he did not believe what he had heard. I looked at him with contempt before I turned back to my own table.
  13. 'Feeling hungry?' I asked as Dumbledore finally finished his speech. 'Of course! What a question is that?' Ron exclaimed causing me and Harry to snicker. The plates in front of us were suddenely filled with different types of delicious food and I helped myself with a little bit of each. When I finished the last helping of the pudding, I felt drowsy and longed for nothing but my bed upstairs. I did not even talk to my friends and hurriedly made my way to the commonroom. As I reached the dormitory, I instantly jumped into my bed and pulled the sheets over me. In the bed, I thought about the new semester, the hopes for the new year and the determination that I would definitly do something memorable but the sleep overwhelmed me, cutting off my thread of thoughts and before I knew, I was asleep.
