Into the Faerie Realm (part 2)

Quiz Image

In this story, it is not all about happiness and being cheerful, which is probably what most people think when they see the word "faerie/fairy/fae/faery". Fawn has been through struggles (dead mother and abusive father), but she can see the light at the end of the tunnel with her boyfriend: Avery.... Surely they'll be together, right?

I'd like to say thank you to SilverNote13 for commenting. I will hopefully be continuing this, but we'll see how hard writer's block hits me with this story.

  1. What is your age?
  2. What is your gender?
  1. The car ride was shorter than I thought it would be. Although, that might've been because Avery and I were singing our hearts out the whole time. The lake was gorgeous, and the pine trees seemed to really make the sparkling water look even better. There were a few tents set up around the lake, but luckily there weren't too many people, so there were still a lot of spots to choose from. "Do you want to go ahead and pick out a good spot while I start unloading our stuff?" Avery asked as soon as he parked the car. "Yeah, sure." I smiled and got out, heading towards the side of the lake that had the less tents. Passing one tent, I noticed that the four people sitting in lawn chairs on the outside all went to my school: Marci, Julianna, Nick, and Jacob. I kept my head down, hoping that they wouldn't notice me. They had a tendency to be rude and smug, putting people down whenever they could, and I didn't want to talk to them.
  2. "Oh my goodness. Fawn? Is that you?" Marci asked. Great, I thought sarcastically, and then put on a smile before turning to them. "Yeah," I replied, trying to keep my answers short, so I wouldn't have to talk to them for very long. "Are you here by yourself? That's a little sad, don't you think?" Julianna sweetly asked. "Then it's a good thing that I'm here with Avery." I retorted. She had a crush on Avery last year, and attempted to break us up, but she miserably failed. "And did you get permission from your mother to come here? We wouldn't want you to get in trouble. Here," she stuck out her phone and innocently smiled at me, "why don't you give her a call and let her know that you made it here safely? Oh wait. You can't call the dead." They all laughed, and I felt something deep within my soul break. "I will make sure that you have a painful life, if it is the last thing that I do. I will ruin your summer, and make sure that you suffer. Every secret that you've kept in that head of your's will come out, even if you don't want them to." I promised and she looked like she was about to laugh, but a shocked look on her face came instead.
  3. "I slept with Wallace in exchange for homework and test answers." Julianna blurted out. "What?" Nick confusedly asked. "In 8th grade, I was the one who told everyone that Marci made-out with Mr. Flint, even though it wasn't true." She rambled on, and it didn't even look like she was taking a breath. "Why would you do that?" Marci asked. "Because someone needed to knock you down a peg. Besides, he gave me a bad test grade, and I wanted him to get fired." More secrets flew from her mouth. She talked about trying to break Avery and me up, setting a house on fire, and shoplifting. Not once did she stop to breathe, and she looked like she was about to pass out from the lack of oxygen. My vision went tunnel vision on her, and I blocked everything else out. Just as it looked like she was about to suffocate on her own words, someone touched my arm, and I came out of my trance. Julianna started gasping for air, and her big brown eyes were wild. I looked up at the person who touched my arm and saw that it was Avery. He looked scared, and by that I mean completely terrified.
  4. I looked back at Julianna, who was still desperately trying to get a deep breath, but she was no longer spilling out her secrets. Her knuckles were white from clenching onto the armrests of her chair and she looked petrified. I didn't do this, right? There's no way. I can't do this to someone. I thought and then exhaled, letting the thought that Julianna is just messing with me settle into my mind. She instantly calmed down and started taking deep breaths. "Come on, let's go." Avery said and gently pushed me away from them. We walked until we were well-enough away from anyone. "Did you see the little prank that Julianna was doing to me?" I asked. "This looks like a good place to set up." Avery said. "Hello? Did you hear me?" I asked, and he pretended that he was busy getting the tent out. "Hey, Avery." I said and stood in front of him. "I think you should just let it go." He said, looking me in the eyes.
  5. "Okay," I said after a moment of silence, "I'll got get the rest of the bags." "No!" Avery sharply said, surprising me. "Just wait here, and I'll go get them." He took off towards the car before I could say anything. "Okay, fine." I said to the wind. I picked up the tent and started putting the rods together. Avery came back as soon as I was beginning to put the rods into the tent. "Maybe we should just skip this whole little section of the trip, and spend an extra week at Cedar Point." Avery suggested, plopping the bags down with the others. "What? Why?" I asked. "I'm just not feeling it. Plus, there's a full moon tonight." He answered. "So what? There's a full moon every month." I pointed out. "Yes, but I still don't like it." He protested. "We're staying." I told him and cut him off whenever he tried to protest. "Why is it so important to you that we stay?" Avery asked. "Why is it so important to you that we leave?" I retorted. "I just don't want there to be drama between us and them." He nodded his head towards Julianna and her friends. "And there won't be as long as they stay away," I said. "Now, come on, and help me with this tent." I noticed that the sun was starting to set, and I didn't want to be trying to put up a tent in the dark. He thankfully didn't say anything else, and started to help me with the tent.
  6. By the time the sun went down, we got the tent up, and we had all of our bags inside. The sky was perfectly clear, showing off the sparkling stars, and the full moon rising into the darkness. "We should get some sleep." Avery said, and I agreed, going into the tent. I didn't even bother to change out of my clothes, being too tired. As soon as I got comfortable in my sleeping bag, I immediately fell asleep. Unfortunately, I was awoken in the middle of the night by someone screaming. I looked over at Avery, and it looked like he was beginning to stir, but he was still sleeping. I don't know why I didn't wake him up, but if I did, then I probably wouldn't be where I am now. He would've told me to stay in the tent, and I would've listened. Instead, I put on my black combat boots, and went into the forest, trying to find the owner of that scream. Now, I know what you're thinking: "who the hell would go towards the scream? Have you never seen a horror film? That's how you die!" And I'd just like to say that I was thinking the exact same thing, but I felt drawn to it. So, there I was: crashing through the forest, looking for the person who screamed, thinking that I was certainly walking towards my death. But then I saw Marci, Julianna, Nick, and Jacob.
  7. "I told you she would come." Marci said. "So, you're attracted to danger? Or are you just naturally okay with the possibility of dying?" Julianna innocently asked, stepping towards me. "What are you talking about?" I asked. "The scream." Nick answered, and I realized that he moved, so he was almost directly behind me. "Look, I don't want to be involved in one of your little pranks again." I told them, and spun around. I was face-to-face with Nick. "Going somewhere?" He whispered, sending chills down my spine. He shoved me, making me stumble backwards. "What are you guys doing?" I asked when they surrounded me. "We just want to help you, Fawn." Jacob said, taking a step forward. "Help me with what? What are you talking about?" I quickly said. "Do you know what this is?" Julianna pointed to a ring of mushrooms behind her. "It's a Faerie Circle. My grandma told me about them, but they're just mushrooms. Nothing more." I told them. "You're going to step in it." Julianna told me. In any other circumstances, I might've stepped inside it, but since someone that I didn't like wanted me to step inside it, I didn't even want to be in breathing distance of it.
  8. "No. Why?" I said. "If you think that nothing will happen, then what's the harm in stepping inside?" Marci asked. "Because then it gives you the idea that you can tell me what to do, and I won't give you that." I said. "What if we say 'please'?" She asked. "This is ridiculous. I'm going back to my tent." I told them and tried to leave between Nick and Jacob, but they blocked my path. "Move." I said, darkening my tone. "Or what?" Nick sneered, and I took a deep breath. "Help! Somebody help me!" I screamed on the top of my lungs. Before I could scream anymore, Jacob tackled me to the ground, knocking the wind out of me. "It's almost midnight." Julianna pointed out. "We need to hurry up and get her in there." Nick said. Jacob got off of me, yanking me up with him, and holding my arms behind my back. "Just admit that you're drawn to the Circle, and step inside it already." Julianna said and walked towards me until she was an inch away. "But I'm not drawn to it." I told her, and it was the truth. I wanted to get as far away from it as possible.
  9. "Well, we can't force you, but we can persuade you." She said and then nodded to Nick and then Jacob. They both grabbed one of my arms and started pulling me behind a tree. "What are you doing?" I yelled, trying to dig my heels into the ground. "Just remember that they'll stop as soon as you agree to step inside the Circle." Julianna said. They dragged me behind the tree, and shoved me up against it. "I got this." Nick said to Jacob, and Jacob went back to the others. "Why are you doing this?" I asked him. "Orders." And that was all he said before taking his arm back and punching me in the face. I fell to the ground, and all of the memories of my father doing the same thing came rushing into my head. I instinctively curled up in a ball and put my hands above my head. I felt a sharp pain in my ribs, and I knew that he kicked me. "Stop it." I demanded. "Will you do as we ask?" He questioned. "Why is it so important to you?" I asked. "Because believe it or not, we're trying to help you. Not only that, but we have orders to make you step inside this Circle, or else our world will be doomed." He hissed in my ear, so none of the others could hear. "Orders from whom?" I asked, lowering my hands. "It's difficult to explain. Now, are you going to step inside it, or not?" He asked. "No, I'm not." I replied, and saw him draw back his arm. As he swung towards me, I rolled out of the way, quickly getting to my feet, and running deeper into the forest. I heard Nick crashing after me, and I knew that I wouldn't be able to outrun him for much longer. I didn't know which direction I was going, or if I was moving further from the lake or not, but I stumbled onto a small clearing, and stopped running. In the center of it, there was a perfect ring of mushrooms. The full moon shone brightly above it, and I felt compelled to walk towards it. "Don't go towards it, Fawn." Nick's voice said behind me. "Why? Isn't this what you wanted?" I asked him and slowly started walking towards the Circle. "I meant don't step in that one. You need to step inside the one that we showed you." He told me and I was right on the edge of the Circle. "But I don't want too." I said, stepping inside. At first, nothing happened. I didn't know what I was expecting, but I didn't expect everything to be exactly the same as it was when I was outside of the ring. But then, I couldn't feel the ground anymore, and I was plummeting through the sky.
  10. And this is where I shall end it.
