  So we were playing knockout in gym and the head coach of the basketball team was watching. I got really nervous and the next thing I knew I won two rounds in a row.
  
  Then afterwards, he came up to me and asked me to make sure I showed up at try outs. Meanwhile, I SUCK. What the luck?

  Maybe it's luck, or maybe you were so nervous you automatically tried harder.
  I know when I think I'm going to do horribly, I just go for it and try harder thinking "Well, going to fail anyway, nevermind the potential risk of failing/awkwardness."
  
  When I think I'm going to do awesomely, however, I let my guard down, kick back, and relax. Which causes me to fail utterly because I lost track of time. Or thought I was just that good.
