| If I must pick one, I think Islam is better. Believe it or not, it was a better to a Muslim woman in the Middle Ages than to be Christian one. I'd like to say it still is, but it's hard to make a case when you look at how awful it is to be a woman in a country like Saudi Arabia where they practice Sharia Law. But there are passages in the Quaran that say a daughter should be valued as much as a son, and that a man should use only "sweet words" with their wife. Christianity however teaches that a wife must submit to her husband (it's somewhere in the New Testament), and early theologians like Thomas Aquinas basically argued that the infidelity or lack of chastity by a man was the result of woman's evil temptation. This is still a very prevalant idea in Christianity today. It should also be said that throughout history, Muslims have been tolerant of other religions within their country. Read about coexistance of religions in Muslim Spain. When that same country was fully conquered by Christians, that was when the Spanish Inquisition started and Jews and Muslims were expelled from Spain. | |
