  1. "You ok?" Ryan asks you. You turn around to his honey eyes. You nod. "You hurt your head," Chris cuts in. Stone blue tinted gray eyes. You raised your eyebrows. It hurt to raise them. Your fingers go up to your forehead, under your hair. "I'm really sorry Erin; I'll get you an icepack from the office," says Chris with concern in his gray eyes you could almost forgive him. Your fingers come down and displayed right before your blurred eyes was a crimson stain on your index and middle finger pads. Your eyes widen. How much were you bleeding? You must've panicked or something because Chris was sprinting for the office. "No, wait, Chris. I don't even feel it, I'll just go to the restroom-"
  2. He was already gone. You attempt to take your harness off. You had no clue how. Your fingers were dumbly and stiffly picking around here and there. Ryan kinda rolls his eyes and shakes his head as he comes over and undoes it for you in seconds. "Hey, how'd you know how to do this?" you asked him and he threw the harness into the equipment room. "Well... I've wall climbed before," he starts. You don't ask him anything more as you head into the girls restroom. You stand in front of the mirror. The crimson on your forehead was all over the left side of your head. Why was blood flowing so much? Or at least it looked like a lot of blood. Maybe it wasn't that bad. Besides, you couldn't feel anything unless you raised your eyebrows.
  3. It had been kinda a rough day. Your reflection was frowning and not looking too happy. You talk to your reflection, "Well, Erin. You're having just one of those bad days again. Smile becuz God only blesses a smiling face and nobody likes you frowning." You take your fingers and push up the corners of your mouth. You take a paper towel, wet it under the sink with cold water and dabbed the scraped part. You take another towel except warm this time and wipe all the excess blood staining your forehead. It looked okay. All you needed was something to cover it up. You walk out and there was Ryan waiting for you.
  4. He smirked as you walk past him. "God only blesses a smiling face..." he says. You felt you face heat up. "Hey!" you shout at him. Eavesdropping creeper. "Talking to your reflection, what else do you talk to?" he asks. "My stomach talks to me," you say. He laughs. "Does your head hurt?" he asks. "No, I don't even feel it," you say. "Oh... right. I remember now. You're Maximum Megatron and nothing can hurt your steel heart and cereal box chest," he says rubbing his chin. "Shut up Megamouth," you say walking into the wall climbing room.
  5. You hear his footsteps behind you as he follows you in. And then you feel hands on your shoulders that wheel you around. "What?" you say into those hazel eyes. "This means a lot to you doesn't it?" he asked in a serious tone. He was talking about cross country. "Well, not that much... I-" "Don't lie," he cuts in smiling. "I know." Your face flushes in bright color as he wraps a black headband around your head, steps back. "Perfect, you look like a determined runner," he jokes. "Is this yours?" you ask him pointing to the headband. "Sure," he says, "Don't worry, it's new."
  6. Every day Chris and his group would train in the wrestling room. Coach Dennis has already showed you how you should run properly. Keep arms and legs in swift constant motion, swing your arms the right way, keep your head up and directed forwards, run a little bit leaned forward with a straight posture and loosen your shoulders. You memorized all the little steps and tips. Dehydrate during the day, if you drank before a race, it doesn't feel good out there running with water sloshing in your stomach and having to take a wee. After practice you tell Ryan, "Never wait for me. Keep running. Don't wait for people to slow you down. Sometimes it's ok to put something else in front of your friends," you say remembering Mandy. He looks at you weird. And then he says sarcastically, "Why would I wait for you?"
  7. "When's the meet?!" you ask frantically. It had been two weeks of training and the meet was sometime this week. "Tomorrow," says Coach Dennis. You freaked. "Hey, kid. Calm down, you're gonna do great Erin, I've been watching you," he assures you. You nod but you were not sure. What if you forgot to eat your eggs that morning? What if you forgot your water bottle? What if you- ...came in last? You were just nervous like crazy that you took off without even saying "See you tomorrow Coach." You ram right into Ryan who just came out of the door. He gives a shout as you charge. You guys fly right into a large wide cart of basketballs. You leap over the cart and fly to the office. It was dark and empty. The office people had left. "Dammit, dammit, dammit..." you cursed to yourself as you trudged back to where Ryan was digging under the basketballs. "Whadda lookin for?" you ask him. "My cell," he says. "That you knocked out of my hands," he added. "Oh whatever," you snap as you get on the floor and search under the cart.
  8. "If I find it, would you let me use it?" you ask. "Yea," says Ryan. "You can always use my cell phone when you need it."You stand up and scan the cart. "I see it," you say as you reach over Ryan to grab it. He sees it and makes a move to grab it before you do. But your fingers swipe it first. "Yes, now I get to call home," you say grinning at him. You flip it open. "How do you use this?" you ask him never to have touched a cell phone before. "Give it here," he says. You give it to him. He does a bunch of buttons and then hands it back to you. You pause for a second. You guys didn't have a phone at home but mum was always borrowing our auntie's when who lived a mile or two away but auntie and mum were the best sisters in the world so they trusted each other well. Mum's only going to use it when she really needs it and right you really needed to call. You type in the number that your mum told you to type. Just as you were about to type in the last number the screen dies down and turns black.
  9. "Wow you dummy, have you been using all day or you forgot to charge it?" you ask Ryan. He stares at you for a moment and then says, "Oh jeez, forgot to charge it last night." "Psh, dummy," you say as you hand back the phone. "That's not even mine, it's my Mom's. She was s'posed to charge it and then give it to me every morning so I could call her when I needed to," he adds. "You have one?" you ask him. "Yea... I broke it snapped into two so... it's still repairing." "How did that happen!?" you screech at him. He gives you a mischievous grin. "Mind your own business," he mimics your one of your usual reply. He dashes out the door before you could thock him on the top of his head. He runs out of breath uphill, but you weren't going to stop. You charge on like a bull and almost ram into him- he caught your arms. "Let go," you grunt. Your arms tried to go forward but his arms were in the way. "No, you're going to hit my head," Ryan said grinning. You push your arms at him and he backs up a little bit. "You're weak," he says grinning, "Can't do anything from here, eh?" You kicked him in the legs.
  10. You expected him to collapse and rub his leg, but he just tightens his hold on your wrists. His hazel honey colored eyes harden for some reason. They weren't warm but they weren't cold either. They were kind of like... challenging you. But there was also something else in his eyes. Out here where there weren't any people in the halls, to fill the classroom, especially with chatty and fun Rene gone, and for the first time just the two of you, you couldn't understand why your stomach was churning and your heart pumping triple times. Your heart was pumping faster than you could ever run, faster than you could ever feel in a race.
  11. You kinda turn your face down, your bangs suddenly moving to your face. "Won't hit me anymore?" Ryan asks. You put on a scowl and muttered, "No." He lets go. He was still standing there. You thock him on his head. You run. "Hey!" he shouts running after you. You run and laugh as the distance between you guys increase. Suddenly the distance between you guys decrease in seconds and he was right behind you. You stop at the sidewalk, a black car pulls up. The driver, you couldn't help noticing how she had the exact same hair Ryan had, dark coffee with a sheen of fine hardwood, and light caramel messy in some streaks. There was a girl about your age in the back. The girl did not in any way look related to Ryan or the brown haired lady who you assumed was Ryan's Mom.
  12. The girl had cerulean eyes centered in an amber glow. Silvery lashes lined her eyes; her cheeks were full of color, her hair radiant strawberry blonde that hovered above her shoulders. Her face glowed, heart shaped and flawless. But she sorta had a look of disapproval as her glance from Ryan moves to you. "That's my Mom, gotta go," says Ryan. You nod and he starts to leave, stops and asks, "Hey, why did you need my cell phone?" "Oh, that? I hadda call my mom to pick me up later cuz I was going to do extra laps around the field." His eyes boggle. "Seriously?" It was kind of outrageous since the team just ran nearly four miles around the cemetery and you still wanted to sprint uphill. You stare at him like nobody could stop you from sprinting up the school's hill and he knew he couldn't stop you. He wouldn't, if you wanted to, you wanted to. Instead he unzips his backpack and pulls out a granola bar. He steps towards you, takes your hand and places the granola into your palm. "Get some rest tonight," he says. When you don't answer he asks, "Ok?" You stare into those concerned sweet eyes. "Yea," you manage to say. "Remember what you said? Your stomach talks to you too," he says with a grin.
  13. He runs into the car, something inside of you worried that he'd sit down by the pretty doll in the back. Instead he opens the passenger seat by his Mom and buckles in. Your mom would never let you sit in the back until you were twelve like what the passenger car rules were. Your eyes move to the girl in the back who looked even more disapproved when Ryan didn't sit in the back with her. Your eyes lock with hers for a moment and then the car disappears over the road. You look at the granola bar in your hands. You remember that you were hungry. "Remember what you said? Your stomach talks to you too." You laugh to yourself. He always remembered every random thing you said. Your heart thumps, he cares about you. You get warm all over by the thought as you stick the granola into your pocket and sprint uphill...
