Beautiful Lies Part 15

Announcements: Welcome to the last part of Beautiful Lies! After this, I'll be starting the final part of this series called Beautiful Endings. Thanks for your descriptions, and I'll try my best to...

...put all of you in one of my series. I might be able to put one or two in this, but the rest probably in a different one. And thanks for the names too! I still haven't decided my favorites.

  1. We walked out of Gritzo's place alive and well. April was still resting peacefully in her bed of flowers, getting ready to sleep for eternity. Ash and Gumbo led the way, followed by Gritzo. Alex and I stayed behind, taking the rear end. In some odd way, I was kind of disappointed in the lack of attacks we were getting. I mean, don't get me wrong, it gives us a higher percentage of a chance we'd get out of here alive, but still. I expected more out of the Banished Provinces. "You okay?" I surfaced out of my thoughts and saw Alex looking at me with a faint scent of worry. "Not really. You know, considering that one of my friends died and stuff." I realized how harsh I sounded. "Sorry." Alex put on one of his heart melting smiles and touched my arm. "No problem. She was my friend too. But let's get off the subject. I don't like seeing you sad. Girls don't usually feel that way whenever I'm around." That earned himself a small laugh from me. "What should we talk about then?" Alex rubbed his neck with his left arm and said, "Hm, we could either talk about how adorable I am, how infuriating you are, or how infuriatingly adorable we are together." He locked my fingers with his and said in a low voice in my ear, "Your pick." Damn.
  2. I almost fell from the wobbliness in my legs. Alex put on a teasing grin. Instead of an answer I said, "I'm infuriating? You're the infuriating one." Alex laughed. "Fierce passion for you and only you, princess." I was about to reply when a faint rumble from the sky interrupted our conversation. I peered upwards into the clouds and saw a small dot that was becoming more in focus every second. At first, I feared it was a bomb, or maybe a missle. But all it was was a capsule. It came soaring down into the ground a few inches by my feet. Smoke billowed from the compartment as it opened. I stepped cautiously towards the capsule and peered inside. Laying limply at the bottom was a folded up piece of paper. I glanced around at the people encircling me and nodded slightly. I took the paper and unfolded it crisply. "I hope you enjoy my welcome gift to you. - Oath." I crumpled up the note and threw it at the ground. Gritzo yelped, "We have to get outta here. Oath isn't the type to go small on gifts."
  3. A loud screech made all of us cover our ears and fall to our knees. The terrible noise felt like knives stabbing away at my ears. "GO!" Gritzo screamed. I looked around quickly to see what it was, and saw disembodied shapes hovering above us in the sky. I continued staring at them, mystified, until Alex grabbed my hand and we started running. The screeching became louder and louder; it felt like I was going to pass out. Suddenly a storm of icicles came pouring down on us. Gumbo's armor came shielding out as he tried shooting out flames to melt the ice. Unfortunately, the fire just wasn't enough. There were too many shards to avoid, and somehow as each second bypassed us, the bigger in size they seemed to be getting.
  4. Alex tied using his mind to clear the path of icicles so that it didn't interfere with our running, but his power could only control a section of a time. One of the creatures swooped down in front of us, blocking our path. Ash swung at it with his sword gleaming in the sunlight, but the creature laughed and blew an ice dagger from its mouth. Ash ducked right on time and missed the shard by just a few centimeters as it grazed right above his head. I couldn't help but admire this creature. In fact, I actually thought it was beautiful. It was the color of a chocolate brown with wings tucked elegantally by its side. The thing had hooves and bronze armor that shimmered in the sunlight. Look wise, I would have thought this monster was kind of cool. But I knew better.
  5. A loud, terrible screech flashed me back and the second monster blocked the opposite path. They had us surrounded. Ash, Gumbo, Gritzo, Alex, and I went back to back in a circle. "Should we go in the forest?" Ash murmured. "We go in the forest we not only have to worry about these b-stards but even more of them. We have to fight." Gritzo pulled out a purple bottle filled with a blue powder. The creatures started circling around us, toying, thinking they've won. "This is the most powerful substance I have. It's a one use thing that might defeat these things," Gritzo said, talking faster and faster. 'Stop him.' The voice was back. What do you mean? I thought in my head. 'It is not the time. You can stop those Berds by yourself. Let me help you,' whispered the disembodied voice, stringing its words into my brain. 'Do it. Or let your friends perish when the real challenge has barely begun.'
  6. I looked around our battlefield. If I can do what I've been doing to stay alive, I could kill these things. "Don't do it," I said to Gritzo. "Let me take care of this." I started walking towards the creatures when somebody grabbed my wrist. "What are you doing? You can't do this alone," Alex said with an edge in his voice. "I haven't been completely honest with you guys and I'll explain when we're safe again. Look, you have to trust me. Just stay here and watch. I caught the over-protectiveness in Alex's eyes and sighed. "Please." He let go with a slight nod and then fell with the others. "Does she know what she's doing?" Ash murmured in Alex's ear. "I guess we'll see."
  7. Walking up to face two giant Berds that shoot out deadly ice daggers alone probably isn't my best idea in the world. Some might think of it as suicide, while others might say it was brave. I see it as a gamble. Best case scenario: my inner power works on my command and these things burn in hell. Worst case scenario: my powers fail me and I die. Yeah, I'm not really looking forward to see what it feels like to be in the worst case scenario.
  8. Surprised, the creatures stopped lurking around and confronted me face to face with snarling teeth. I could smell their foul breath, filled with the blood of innocent animals and humans. I closed my eyes somberly while the creatures screeched. I fought the urge to go running back to the group and stood my ground. I was not going to fail them. Oath wants to play dirty? Okay. "Let's play." I closed my eyes and thought about everything he's stolen from me. Everything. My life, my friends, my boyfriend, my family, ME. A laugh lingered in my brain. 'Let's do it then,' the voice hissed. 'Together.'
  9. I opened my eyes and glared at the creatures, not moving a muscle. They held my gaze, and for a long time it was just a staring match. One of the Berds got weary and shot an icicle at me. I waved my and and the icicle went backwards and hit the Berd right in the eye. Blood splattered the ground as the other Berd cringed ever so slightly. 'More.' I remembered when I was ambushed at my home the night Christofer was stolen from me. The grasp of that man's hands on my throat. My lungs closing up, my breath shortening, my life slipping away. It was time for somebody other than me to feel my pain. And the Berds just so happened to be here. I imagined being strangled at my home. That horrid man surprising me and encasing my throat within his finger; suffocating me. I tried making the Berds feel my pain. I thought I was going to destroy them and feel happy that I have some sense over what was happening to me. I thought wrong. As time slipped past me, my throat was closing up. It was mine, not the Berds. Mine. I didn't realize it until Alex screamed my name and then I was knocked down to the ground. The last thing I heard was the voice in my head, laughing at me.
  10. Was I dead? No. Well, at least I don't think I am. God, I'm so stupid. Actually thinking that I could defeat those Berds alone. Who knew my plan would backfire on myself? That voice. That weird, old lady, expired-for-ten-thousand-years voice. I have to tell them. I almost died. I have to tell them today. Now. If only I didn't feel so tired...No. I have to open my eyes. Eyes: open. Or not. Eyes, come on, don't be so stubborn. There's a buffet waiting for you if you open. Good. My eyelids slowly awakened. Just a slight crack until I could see the moon. I rubbed them with my fists and slowly sat up. I saw a fire burning a few feet away from me with Gumbo snoozing on a log. Alex was off with Ash gathering up some more wood. I looked to my right and saw another Ash going through the black duffle bag, while Gritzo was nowhere in sight. I was going to tell Ash to save up his power for when we needed it, when I noticed that something was different about the other Ash. His frame was kind of smaller, his hair waved different from the back, and his muscles were kind of leaner too. This wasn't Ash. But if Ash was over there then...The guy turned around and then smiled a little when we met each other's gaze. "I see you're awake," he said, his smile widening. The smile that sent me melting to my knees. And that voice. That voice of his that I could never get enough of. "I hope I still have a shot with you...you know, considering the amount of time Alex had to make a move." He looked down at the ground and then back into my eyes. "Did you miss me?" I couldn't speak. I couldn't do anything but stare. Was this a dream? What was...How could it...It was him. It was Christofer.
